Frequently Asked Questions
What is CertScore?
CertScore is a credential verification and ranking platform. You add your professional certifications (AWS, Cisco, CompTIA, ISC2, etc.), we verify them cryptographically, and you earn points that rank you on global and regional leaderboards.
How does verification work?
We use the Open Badge Infrastructure (OBI) standard to cryptographically verify credentials through providers like Credly and Accredible. A SHA-256 hash of your email is checked against the badge issuer's records. If the hash matches, the credential is verified. See our transparency page for full details.
What is the difference between a gold badge and a grey badge?
A gold badge means the credential has been cryptographically verified as belonging to you. A grey badge means it is self-reported with no proof. Only verified (gold) credentials earn points and count toward your leaderboard ranking.
How are points calculated?
Each verified credential earns points based on its tier: Foundational (20), Associate (50), Specialty (75), Professional (100), and Expert (150). Your total score determines your rank on the leaderboard.
Can I change my alias or display name?
You can change your alias once every 30 days. Once you have any verified credential, your display name is permanently locked to prevent identity switching. All alias and name changes are checked by AI for inappropriate content.
What happens when a credential expires?
Expired credentials retain their full tier points. Your score is not penalized for expiry. If you renew the credential, the new expiry date is updated automatically when you re-verify.
Is CertScore free?
Yes. CertScore is built and maintained by V2C Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. There is no cost to create a profile, verify credentials, or appear on the leaderboard.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account from the app settings. If you need help, email us at [email protected] and we will process it for you.
How do I report a problem or inappropriate content?
